Healing The Elements

Posted on: 23 May, 2005

The Nature Elementals, most commonly known as Faeries, are the unseen guardians of the planet. As much as we would like to believe that their survival depends on our beliefs and ability to clap loud enough so as to restart their dying hearts, these energy beings have very little need for us. However, over the last century our persistent misuse of the planet has given these creatures the need to connect with us and teach us the ways we have lost. We have long understood that the world is a complex energy structure; vibrating substances of which the densest can...

The Spirituality of Pigeons!

Posted on: 23 May, 2005

I was walking down the street the other day, walking around the pigeons and saying “good morning” to them when it dawned on me just how precious they are to the lives of city slickers. How many of us have a dislike for these feathered creatures? I often see children chasing pigeons round in circles until they fly away. Once, when I was walking down a street in Oxford, I saw a very smartly dressed man, step down off the curb to chase a pigeon a few feet down the road! Why is it we have such an attitude towards...

Story of Rock Island Bend

Peter Dombrovskis' most famous photograph, Rock Island Bend, was the iconic image of the campaign to stop Tasmania's Hydro-Electric Commission damming the Franklin River. When it appeared as a full-page advertisement in the Herald just before the 1983 federal election, the caption was "Would you vote for a party that would destroy this?"The Franklin River was saved with federal intervention. This was not just a political photo. It was also a good photo. He was the finest landscape photographer in Tasmania, a master of his large format camera which recorded the environment in remarkable detail. The others typically were bushwalker photographers...

The Valuable Individual(413 words)How can we, as individuals, participate in waste management? Because some of us are so overwhelmed with Earth’s problems, we feel that our contributions have no real consequence in the end. For others, social barriers can be an issue. A lady we once knew confessed that she did not want to be seen buying used items or being concerned with power use. She was worried people...

New Evidence Shows The Lasting Effects of Pesticide Exposure

Author: Dave Saunders

A new study suggests that moderate exposure to pesticides could yield long-term negative results to the people exposed to them. These findings should serve as warning to those who indiscriminately spray pesticides around the house, exposing their children, pets and other loved ones. This new research shows that farmers who used agricultural insecticides experienced increased neurological symptoms, even when they were no longer using the products. Data from 18,782 North Carolina and Iowa farmers linked use of insecticides, including organophosphates and organochlorines, to reports of reoccurring headaches, fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, nausea, hand tremors, numbness and other neurological symptoms. Some of...

“I’ll get you, ya varmin”! Vermin - the scourge, tramps & vagabonds of the animal kingdom. This is the stereotypical view of vermin who are inconsequently considered a menace. In South Africa (SA) vermin paints a more disturbing picture. It is not overly well known of the disgraceful neglect the endangered wildlife have in the 3rd largest biosphere. I was shockingly made aware of this during a recent trip to the country. The reason for the trip was to volunteer in the rehabilitation of the vervet monkey, indigenous to SA. This small, black faced, green skinned primate is one of...
